A recording, as produced, contains an artist’s intention, the acoustic signature of the production, and every moment’s microdynamic detail and texture. When a cable imposes its own character, it displaces the source as the primary perceptual object. The listener is no longer discovering what is in the recording but a tinted projection of the work.

A system’s perceived harshness or thinness can be softened by adding complementary coloration through a cable. Most of the time, this masks the underlying failure rather than resolving it. One could be, unknowingly, in a codependent relationship with the cable.
